The real drama in the olympics is unfolding on CTV's Olympic Morning. I am really not sure what is at the root of O'Regan and Onrait's "issues" with each other, but they should know, that it is clearly apparent to all viewers that there is no love lost between the two. The "button hole" incident has grown legs to carry them into a second day, with the two exchanging jabs, and O'Regan making reference to an email from his mother that he will forward to Jay. It is clear by his tone that it is not a fan letter. While this is highly amusing to watch unfold, it is also incredibly unprofessional.

  2. Johnny two times says:

I wonder who will get to interview the first Canadian Gold Medalist?

    • Guest says:

Probably an interview by the reporter at whichever site it happens at, and then an in-studio deal with Williams or whichever host makes the most sense (depending on time of day and which venue it happens at).

  3. 4 x 4 Time says:

Not too mention all the people from the Fan 590 in Toronto going. Do we really need to hear Howard Berger updates? Maybe Rogers could have saved some jobs and not wasted money on useless and uninformative reporting.

  4. chris says:

The big question here is will McCown and MacLean cross paths with each other at Hockey House? Will there be a nasty brouhaha if they do? Stay tuned!

    • 4 x 4 Time says:

Let's hope these two pompous assholes do meet and duke it out. They are both annoying and over exposed in Toronto.

  5. Pat Rosen says:

Jodie Vance is a great looking gal – but I agree with Wolfgang – it is not about the reporters. The athletes have worked their whole lives for this 2 weeks. The "reporters" will go back to annoying us in their regular roles when it is over.

Maybe if Keith Pelly didn't have so many people going to Vancouver in broadcast roles, they could have made a little money off the games. Seems a bit like overkill – Pelley has really convinced himself that this is the most important sports event of our time. He needs to get some perspective.

  6. dodger says:

Jody Vance was a super talent………NOT like many of those mentioned……

  7. David says:

All this venom and no mention of Pierre MiGraine yet? It would appear that with him being on NBC as well – one either needs to ignore the shinny, move to Europe or watch RDS to avoid that nightmare for 2 weeks.

  8. Jody Vance says:

These are all hard working and deserved broadcasters. I, for one, will be cheering each and every one of them on as they live their Olympic dream along with the athletes.

    • Wlolfgang Kopkee says:

Seems hubris and self congratulatory bum-kissing is alive and well with the sports "journalism" ranks in Canada.

Ms Vance, believe it or not the Olympics are not about the reporters, but the show is about the athletes… really. The talented guys and gals who have trained in their given disciplines for years is whom it is all about, not a talking head, or cheerleading jock-sniffer reporter. Unfortunately, many of the CTV-Rogers "talent" believe differently.

      • Steve-O says:

No Wolfgang Kopkee, it is not about the reporters, or on-air talent, it is about the athletes. However, they too have the right to enjoy and define those special moments that the athletes give them. I realize that the sportscaster should never rise above the story, but they can poignantly define the moment. IAl Michaels did back in 1980 with "Do you believe in miracles?" line

I've dabbled in broadcasting and have had the opportunity to call championship games and the moment is special, The broadcaster should be able to revel in those moments.
        Steve Clark

  9. Brian P says:

Is Peter Loubardias and Kevin Quinn really the best hockey play-by-play "talent" Sportsnet could provide? They're both awful. Between those two and Doug MacLean, I wonder if the CTV/TSN talent will be taking great pains to distance themselves as much as possible from the Sportsnet group.

    • Guest says:

It's true. The Sportsnet gang is a big notch below what CTV/TSN is offering up. There's far better talent working the regional Sportsnet NHL games than the names you mention.

  10. Bailey says:

That seems like such overkill for Men's Hockey Analysis but I guess each station will want to have their only analyst working.

  11. 1weasel says:

Hmm, Jay Onrait is the only CTV host listed above that I haven't seen mentioned carrying the torch. Did Jay pass up on this "honour"?

  12. Clarkenstein says:

PLease take Peter Loubardias, Rod Black, Gene Principe and Doug McLean and hide them away in a suitcase for the next three weeks. How do these people stay employed??

  13. Jeff says:

Ben Mulroney, Tanya Kim and Jeanne Beker…Good Lord!!!! I hope CTV doesn't go overboard with the fashion and pop culture element of the games.

  14. concernedcanadian says:

Jennifer Hedger has always been Keith Pelley's pet so it is no wonder that she will have such a visible role. It is rather sad though given her lack of talent.

  15. nototsn says:

    Jennifer Hedger, a 'talent'?

    • Wlolfgang Kopkee says:

Hedger is the Ben Mulroney of sports reporters, with her husband Sean McCormick a close 2nd…

      • chris says:

Funny how "Big Dope" McCormick isn't part of the team covering the Games in Vancouver/Whistler. Will he go mental?

        • mlbfan says:

He's been thrown a bone — he's hosting Connected from Vancouver each night at 2 am (and looped in the morning). He's the only "big name" sports anchor who wasn't given a consortium gig.

  16. Guest says:

Is it really necessary to have studio hosts in Vancouver and at Whistler? Can Brian Williams not make the throw to the alpine events for some reason?

    • jen says:

Ummm…. has anybody else noticed on CTV's olympic morning that O'Regan is visably irritated/disgusted by Onrait?
